Alvord

The Sanborn fire insurance map dated 1911 (Sheet 2) depicts a small wood lockup in Alvord, Texas.  It was in city block 19 (lot 24) next to an alley in a block partly defined by Trapier and Franklin streets.  According to the Reference Librarian at the Alvord Public Library, this calaboose is no longer present.  There are only one Sanborn map for the years 1900 and 1905 and no calaboose is depicted on either.

In 1925, the lockup was gone but a one-story ___ jail appears on the Sanborn map dated May of that year.  It was located in the street at 633 O’Neill just outside the southwest corner of city block 18.

In 1934, it was replaced by a one-story ____ calaboose and office in city block 17 and lot 12.  The map (Sheet 3) does not indicate the direction it faced but it was in the northeast corner of the lot at 614 O’Neill.  This was the last year that a Sanborn map for this town was available to me.
