Arlington
The Sanborn dated 1911 (Sheet 5) depicts a small one-story wood jail in Arlington, Texas. It was located in block 49 bordered by Center and Abrahms streets. It was gone In 1917 (Sheet 2) and there was a much smaller one-story wood jail in block 47 or 48 next to the Fire Department.
Arlington 1911
Fort Worth
The Sanborn fire insurance maps dated 1885, 1889, and 1893 (all Sheet 3) depict a small one-story brick building in Fort Worth, Texas. It was located next to the two-story brick county jail just to the north of the Public Square. The map refers to it as “old” and this suggests to me a vacant calaboose that was used prior to the completion of the county jail. The only jail present in 1898 (Sheet 1) was a three-story structure described as fireproof.
