Nacogdoches
The Sanborn fire insurance maps dated 1885 (Sheet 1), 1891 (Sheet 2), 1896 (Sheet 2), 1900 (Sheet 3), 1906 (Sheet 4), and 1912 (Sheet 7) depict a one-story brick jail in the town of Nacogdoches, Texas. It was located in the public square (city block 5). It appears to be larger than the typical calaboose but is is mentioned here because it is important to the evolvement of jails in the area. In 1900, block 5 had been changed to block 23. In 1921 (Sheet 3), a two-story brick county jail had been erected in city block 12 at 112 South North Street and it was still there in 1922 (Sheet 3).
