Bonham

The Sanborn map dated 1885 (Sheet 1) depicts a one-story wood calaboose in Bonham, Texas. It was located in city block 7 at the corner of State and Chestnut streets. It was also next to a two-story brick county jail and this suggests that it was built and used prior to the construction of the formal county jail. It was no longer there in 1888. According to the U. S. Census (Hill 1918:294), there were five male prisoners in a calaboose in Bonham on January 1, 1910.  Three were White and two were Colored. Thirty-five prisoners were committed in 1910.  Twenty-two were White and thirteen were Colored (Hill 1918:294).

Ladonia

There was a one-story wood calaboose in Ladonia, Texas in 1896. According to the Sanborn fire insurance map (Sheet 2) for that year it was located in City Block 1.  It was in an open area with no street address.  The block was defined by West Main Street on the north and West Depot Street on the west.  It was not on the map dated 1900.   In 1905 (Sheet 4) and 1911 (Sheet 4)  there was a small one-story wood lockup in city block 17 bounded by East Main on the North and Church Street on the west.  The lockup was next to a tin shop and just north of the Gulf, Colorado & Santa Fe Railroad.  No jails, lockups, or calabooses are depicted on the 1919 map for Ladonia.

Leonard

According to minutes of the City Council, the current standing concrete calaboose was preceded by one referred to as dilapidated.  Joe Sudderth is a resident of Leonard and he said that it was made of wood.  The city paid $98 to have it moved but what happened to it is not known.
