El Paso
The Sanborn fire insurance map dated 1888 (Sheet 3) depicts a vacant one-story adobe calaboose in the town of El Paso, Texas at 1405 South Oregon (block 181). In 1885 (Sheet 4) there was an adobe dwelling at this location that was about the same size as the calaboose. Perhaps it was converted for use as a jail between 1885 and 1888. In 1900 (Sheet 13) and 1902 (Sheet 13) there was a two-story brick building that housed the fire department, police headquarters, and the “city calaboose.” It was located at the corner of East Overland and South Stanton streets (block 197). In 1905 (Sheet 25) it is referred to as the city jail. This building was not there in 1898 (Sheet 13).
