Roger G. Moore was with me when we spied his suspicious building near Weatherford, Texas on private property. It is located on top of a high ridge overlooking a creek with a well developed floodplain to the north. The placement of the door and size of the structure is consistent with other calabooses that have been documented during this project. I contacted the reference desk at the Weatherford Public Library and they had no knowledge of a former community in this area. The owners told me that one of the former residents of the area (now deceased) said that a road passed through there at one time and it may have been a small settlement. They also said that it was there in the 1940s when a house was moved to the property. It has no windows and the only source of ventilation, assuming the door was solid, are two round holes on each side that are six inches in diameter. This is similar to the calaboose in Carbon that also has two holes on each side. This structure does not resemble a typical outbuilding that a rancher would have constructed. For now, it is another suspicious structure albeit one of the more interesting ones.
This interesting building is in Weatherford. It was reported to me as a former calaboose but the locals I talked with claim it was a pump station. I plan to go there soon.
