Asherton, Texas
Jim Pond (left) and Joe Ayers (right) beside a metal cell that once held prisoners in Asherton. This photo was taken from a book entitled Texas Game Warden Chronicles written and published by Mike Bradshaw in 2009 under the name Mesquite Bean Press in Carrizo Springs. It is used here courtesy of the family.
This cage consists of solid steel plates and the square holes that provided light and ventilation were created by a specialized machine. Other cages of similar construction are in Athens, Dessau, La Plata, Leakey, Lockhart, and Teague.
Unfortunately, there is no information available as to the age, whereabouts, and original location of this historic structure. I have not seen it in person.
