Calaboose Depicted on Map, Courtesy of The Portal to Texas History
Calaboose in 2013
(Photos taken from Google Earth)
Darryl Pearson found this concrete calaboose from a picture on Portal to Texas History. The date of the photo is not known. It is located in an alley at West 2nd and Oak streets. The owner is not known at this time, and I have not visited it. There were only two Sanborn maps available at the time this calaboose was found, and it is on each one in the same location, city block 47 (lot 23). The 1943 map shows the addition of a U.S.O. Club and an Army Aid Station on the same lot. It is not included in my book The Texas Calaboose and Other Forgotten Jails.
