An article in the Canadian Free Press (Vol. 1, No. 9, Ed. 1) dated October 19, 1887 mentions the presence of a calaboose in town in the following “… the candy store, the city bakery, the calaboose, and Van Horn’s dugout have all been completed, wile the hotels, the Sutherland and Mr. Fay’s, and the court house, are nearly completed.”
