An article in The Frontier Echo published in Jacksboro (Vol. 1, No. 20, Ed. 1) dated November 19, 1875 refers to the local calaboose in the following.

“Sheriff Crutchfield with others were out riding Sunday afternoon and met the negro riding the stolen horse.  The sheriff brought him to town and lodged him in the calaboose.”
