Lampasas
This metal cage is in downtown Lampasas in an alley. I talked with one of the town’s police officers and he did not know where it came from. This cage has two cells and a small walk space in front. The entry door is on one end and the cells face a wall of bars with small openings for passing food and other items to the prisoners. The cell doors were opened and closed by a massive locking mechanism with levers on the outside. Each cell had four bunk beds and a heater in the corner. There is one circular hole on the rear wall that served as a vent for the heater. This is the only metal cage in my sample with that feature.
Ventilation holes for heaters
This cage measures 13.8 feet across the front and 12.8 feet on the sides (176.64 square feet). The two cells are divided by a solid metal wall that is 4 inches thick. The rear is most unusual in that it has two openings with vertically placed bars that span the entire length from top to bottom. The height of the cage was not measured but these openings are 24 inches wide and they are centered on the rear wall of each cell. The wall opposite the entry door is a solid sheet of metal.
