Marathon
Ed Blackburn, Jr. (2006:47-48) states that the town did not have a jail at first. During the interim, prisoners where chained to the leg of a windmill. Later, the town used an adobe house but prisoners found ways to escape. Finally, a stone jail was constructed (date and size not given) and two metal cells from the jail in Alpine were brought to Marathon in 1901 for added security. The cells were built by the Diebold Safe and Lock Company.
