Bailey County

Muleshoe

The wooden jail that was in Parmer was moved to Muleshoe in 1919 when the town became the county seat. The cost was $100. Roy Barber delivered it for $15.  The Sheriff was H. A. Douglas and he had it put next to his house so he could watch it and care for the prisoners without leaving his property (Blackburn 2006:28-29). There is no Sanborn map for Muleshoe.

Parmer

Ed Blackburn, Jr. (2006:28-29) states in his book “Wanted: Historic County Jails of Texas” that a wooden jail used to served the town of Parmer. The size is not given but because it was constructed prior to 1919 suggests that may have been a small calaboose.  There was no Sanborn map for Parmer at the time of this project.
