Runge

A wood calaboose was present in Runge, Texas in an open area between Front Street and the railroad. It is depicted on the Sanborn fire insurance maps dated 1902 (Sheet 1), 1912 (Sheet 3), and 1922 (Sheet 3).  In 1922 the building is referred to as a jail.  The Sanborn maps dated 1907 do not appear to show the area where the calaboose was.  Because it appears on the 1902 and 1912 maps in the exact same location it is believed that the 1907 map is not complete. The 1922 map is the last one for this town. Perhaps the jail is still present.
